How does CBD work for Pets?

The veterinary world also benefits from the use of medicinal cannabis. The list of benefits of CBD for animals is very similar to that for humans.

It’s hard to see your dog in pain, suffering from a chronic illness or experiencing severe anxiety. That said, everyday there are more people trying CBD for their sick animal friends, and the compound is growing in popularity due to all the positive reviews made by the owners of dogs and other animals, for CBD companies.

CBD (cannabidiol) is a non-psychoactive ingredient of cannabis that is increasingly being recommended for the treatment of chronic diseases, cancer, neurological disorders, severe anxiety and terminal conditions in cats, dogs and horses. The most common method is the oil, but there are other options such as snacks, ointments, capsules, sprays and even fabrics.

The cannabinoids contained in the oil activate the CB1 and CB2 receptors to act on many fronts, including: Treatment of localized and chronic pain, energy balance, appetite regulation, homeostasis, fertility, endocrine and immune systems.

In 2018, pet owners in the US spent $31 million on CBD-based products. In 2019, there was a 946% increase to a total of $321 million in sales. The data comes from Brightfield Group, a research company specialized in cannabis, and it is estimated that this market will reach $1.16 billion by 2022.

Each product has a different formulation and your dog’s body will react differently to each CBD product. Your dog’s reaction will depend on the source and potency of the hemp, as well as the extraction process, the type of extract, the ingredients, and the manufacturing process.

Typically users who already have some knowledge of the medication, recommend speaking with a veterinarian before choosing CBD products for your pet, and verifying that the products chosen have no additives or preservatives, are organic, have a low THC content, are obtained through CO2 extraction, are third-party tested and independently verified.

CBD helps treat several pet ailments but, just as any other medication, it should be analysed by a professional. If you love your pet, look for the best products and make sure you are doing the best for your friend.
